The 37th Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU), under the leadership of Comrade Rufai Akanni Obipehin, has announced the introduction of a Monthly Students’ Community Cleanup Exercise in commemoration of World Cleanup Day.
The initiative reflects the Union’s commitment to promoting a cleaner, healthier and more conducive environment for students, particularly within their residential communities.
According to the announcement, the first edition will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, with subsequent editions scheduled for the last Saturday of every month.
The Union stated that the initiative forms part of its plans to fulfil promises made during the election campaign, reaffirming its commitment to translating those promises into action.
As part of the exercise, the Students’ Union will visit and engage student residential communities, encouraging students and other residents to participate in regular sanitation activities, embrace environmental responsibility and foster healthier community living.
To ensure the initiative's success and long-term sustainability, the Union has called on communities, landlords, residents, organisations, government agencies and the entire student populace to partner with it in making the exercise impactful.
